I played games 33 times during July. There were 23 different games. This collage features my favourite seven for the month. They are:
- 7 Wonders - Got this as a birthday present. It uses a card drafting mechanic to create a civ-building style game. Features beautiful artwork and lots of replayability. Playable with 2 to 7 players.
- Ghost Stories - My plays of this game recently have been using my own variant rules for a more freeform playstyle. This is a 1 to 4 player cooperative game where you are Tibetan warriors trying to defend your village against a wave of ghost attacks. Features dice rolling and luck mitigation, plus beautiful artwork. The elusive expansion White Moon has just been rereleased in limited quantities.
- Pirates vs Dinosaurs - The first game I backed on Kickstarter. It is a push your luck feast! Lots of high quality components. Artwork from my favourite board game artist, Josh Cappel. Plays a little too long but good with 2 to 4 players.
- Ab In Die Tonne - A dexterity game about not wanting to take the garbage out. Really cool wooden pieces and a nice stacking experience. Only released in German so far.
- Garden Dice - Another game featuring artwork from Josh Cappel. A tile-laying dice-rolling gardening game. Thinky but not too much so.
- Fortune & Glory: The Cliffhanger Game - Captures the feel of pulp adventure movies in a board game. Features awesome thematic artwork, lots of dice rolling, and a absolutely HUGE box. Plays 1 to 8 players and runs a little too long.
- Elder Sign - GAME OF THE MONTH!!! A Lovecraft inspired cooperative dice game which is tense and satisfying to win. Plays great solitaire. Published by Fantasy Flight Games so not qualms about components. The expansion, Unseen Forces, has just been released.
